The Center for the First-Year Experience (CFYE) is committed to providing you with the necessary support to help facilitate a successful transition for your student. We recognize that you play a central role in your student’s life and that you will continue to be a source of guidance and support during your student’s college years. For these reasons, we offer a concurrent SOAR experience for parents and guests of incoming students.
We recognize that parents play a central role in a student’s life and that you will continue to be a source of guidance and support during your student’s college years. Nevertheless, we encourage you to look at your interactions with your student in a different way. You will move from being the primary caregiver and decision-maker to being more of a mentor or coach. We acknowledge that for many parents this is a significant change, and CFYE will help you find the resources to navigate this transition.
We offer a concurrent SOAR program specifically designed to help parents & adult guests learn more about campus resources and supports for their students. There is a $25 per guest fee (up to 2) for attending SOAR. The SOAR Parent & Guest Program includes informational sessions on a variety of topics such as health and wellbeing, safety, managing finances, and more!
Below are the general timeframes for the January SOAR program sessions. A detailed schedule will be provided at check-in.
